Large Rail System
Our large handrail system is designed so that no screws show in the top rail. First, attach the subrail to the balluster. A 2x2 piece of ipe is used for the baluster.
The subrail/balluster is then screwed to the bottom rail, typically a 5/4 X 4 piece of ipe.
Finally, attach the rail cap to the subrail with one screw on each side of the balluster.
The diagram to the right shows how to screw all the pieces together. Remember, when working with tough wood like ipe, it is necessary to pre-drill the holes.
Small Rail System
Our small rail caps are designed to sit directly on top of the balluster. You can follow the same steps as for the large rail system, only replace the subrail and large rail cap with the small rail cap.
